Courtney Curls
When I became a mom, I realized just how much our little ones observe—about the world and about themselves. Hair, I’ve come to learn, becomes more than just hair. It becomes a symbol of identity, pride, belonging—and at times, even pain.
I started this series because I, too, once felt uncertain about my curly hair. Growing up, I rarely saw curls celebrated. I spent years wishing for “easier” hair—straighter, sleeker, more “normal.” But over time, I discovered that there’s strength in our texture, uniqueness in every strand, and beauty in embracing what makes us bold.
The name of the main character is inspired by my maiden name, Courtenay—a name that was often easier for others to remember, as it’s also a common first name. For ease of pronunciation and connection with young readers, the spelling in this story reflects the more familiar version.

Book 01
Curly, Bold Free!
This book was born from tender moments with my daughter, conversations with my mother, and my own lifelong journey toward self-acceptance. My hope is that it reminds every curly-haired child (and grown-up) that being different is not something to hide—it’s something to honor.
Stay curly. Stay bold. Stay free.
Book 02
Holiday Hair
Courtney Curls: Holiday Hair is a heartwarming story about friendship, confidence, and embracing your natural beauty—even on the tough days.
When Kristy is too embarrassed to sing because of a bad hair day, her friend Courtney reminds her that accessories—and love—can help anyone shine through.
This story celebrates the power of kindness and self-love, especially for children learning to feel proud of their hair, their voice, and their place in every room—during the holidays and all year long.
What are Courtney Curls?
To “have Courtney Curls” is more than just having curls like Courtney — it’s a state of being.
It’s about the confidence that comes from learning to love what makes you unique, especially when that beauty hasn’t always been celebrated.
Courtney Curls isn’t about ownership or one girl’s story—it’s about us. It represents a shared journey of discovering pride in our natural hair, our roots, and our reflection.
It’s for every child learning that their curls are crowns, and for every parent building confidence in their children by reminding them that natural beauty is powerful and worthy of celebration.
Having Courtney Curls means carrying yourself with confidence, joy, kindness, and courage—
no matter the season, the setting, or the kind of hair day you’re having.
